Protein Folding
The term Protein Folding stands for the structural formation process in which the unique three-dimensional (tertiary and quaternary) structure of a protein forms out of its amino-acid sequence (primary structure). Since the structure of proteins is closely related to its functions understanding the principles of the Folding process on a quantitative basis is a question of both high scientific as well as pharmaceutical/industrial interest.

Global Optimization
In various fields of interest as diverse as economics, flight schedules or physics mathematical methods are applied to describe the costs or other properties of the investigated processes and systems. Global Optimization deals with methods to find the global minimum, like the minimal price or the optimal organization of flights plans of these mathematical descriptions. In some of these cases analytical approaches are not feasible and stochastic optimization schedules are applied.
